The Dishes

Rio Grande Grill delivers an impressive array of churrasco meats carved tableside throughout the meal. The chicken and sausage course features exceptionally flavorful mini sausages with excellent spice balance and perfectly moist chicken that pairs beautifully with their house vinegar sauce made with garlic and spices. The garlic steak is lightly seasoned with rock salt, allowing the natural beef flavor to shine, while the wagyu ribeye is a standout moment where meat juices flow freely upon biting into the premium Japanese beef.

The menu includes rare items for churrasco restaurants: grilled shrimp served whole with edible shells providing nice crunchiness, tender grilled squid simply seasoned with salt that melts in the mouth, and the hump steak from the back of the cow, a South American specialty with a texture similar to corned beef but with incredible tenderness and unique flavor that impresses as one of the evening's highlights. Medium-rare special ramp steak, pork belly grilled until tender, and grilled cheese round out the meat selections. A special March-April pork offering showcases how the restaurant rotates premium proteins seasonally.

The extensive salad bar deserves equal attention to the meats. Beyond fresh vegetables and multiple dressings, it features Brazilian croquettes (pastel), pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread that is wonderfully squishy and juicy), various Brazilian sides including farofa and feijoada bean soup, marinated red cabbage, bean salad, and pickles. The vegetables sourced from Mura in Kagawa Prefecture are visibly beautiful and premium quality. Grilled pineapple arrives tableside to aid digestion and bring citrusy sweetness to the experience.

Desserts from the salad bar include acai yogurt with fruits, Brazilian custard pudding that is firmer than Japanese pudding with rich custard flavor, and brigadeiro in both chocolate and coconut varieties, though slightly adjusted to Japanese taste preferences with less intense sweetness than authentic versions. A fresh mango sorbet provides a refreshing final course.

The Experience

The restaurant itself is spacious, beautiful, and well-designed after 10 years in operation. Located just a 2-minute walk from Ebisu Station on the JR line, it offers convenient access. Service is attentive with staff explaining dishes and recommendations clearly, including the unique signal system where green side of the table token means keep serving, pink side means stop. Live samba performances occur every Wednesday at 7 and 8 p.m. with no cover charge, adding entertainment value to the experience. The meat service is relentless and continuous unless you indicate you want a break.

Value and Pricing

At 5,900 yen for all-you-can-eat dinner with optional drink packages, the value proposition is exceptional. The combination of premium ingredients including wagyu, fresh seafood, high-quality Brazilian sides, an outstanding salad bar, desserts, and complimentary entertainment on Wednesday nights makes this a bargain for the quality and variety provided.

Notable Moments

That is one of the best sausages I've ever had in Japan. Good use of spices. Super meaty, porky, and very, very flavorful.
This is definitely Wagyu because as soon as you bite into it, the meat juices just flow into your mouth.
I gotta say this is probably one of my favorite I had this entire evening because it is incredibly mindblowingly tender and flavorful. Really, seriously, I've never had anything like it.
I really like how this restaurant differentiates itself from other Sherasco restaurants in town. They have grilled shrimp, which other places don't. They also serve wagyu Japanese beef, which is very rare at a Shrasco place at this price point.

The Verdict

Rio Grande Grill stands out as a premium all-you-can-eat churrascaria that successfully combines Brazilian traditions with Japanese quality ingredients and service. What makes it special is the willingness to serve unique cuts and preparations rarely found at competing restaurants, paired with genuinely excellent supporting elements like the salad bar and desserts. This restaurant is ideal for anyone in Tokyo seeking a break from traditional Japanese cuisine who wants to enjoy high-quality meat and Brazilian flavors. The Wednesday samba shows add cultural entertainment that enhances the overall experience. Whether you are a meat lover looking for variety or someone seeking an exciting dining experience with premium ingredients, Rio Grande Grill delivers exceptional value and memorable moments that justify repeat visits.
