Schabowy (Magda Gessler's restaurant) — Review by KSIĄŻULO

Warsaw, Poland — Polish

The reviewer visits Magda Gessler's new restaurant and is blown away by their schnitzel, describing it as potentially the best he has eaten in Poland. Despite being three times thicker than a normal schnitzel, the meat is incredibly tender and delicate. The pickle soup also impresses with its intensely sour, authentic flavor.

What was great: Exceptionally tender and delicate schnitzel despite its thick cut, incredibly flavorful and nothing like typical schnitzels; pickle soup with intense, perfectly sour essence; excellent quality meat that melts in the mouth like ground nuggets

What could improve: Nothing mentioned

The Dishes

The main attraction is the schnitzel, a massive cutlet that is three times thicker than a standard schnitzel. Despite its impressive size and thickness, the meat is extraordinarily tender and delicate, with a texture compared to ground nuggets. The reviewer is genuinely shocked by how soft and refined the meat is when served at such a substantial thickness. This combination of size and tenderness creates a memorable dining experience that far exceeds expectations for a dish the reviewer has eaten countless times before. The pickle soup is another standout, featuring an intensely sour and acidic flavor profile that represents the essence of the finest pickle broth imaginable. The soup's strength lies in its authentic, powerfully sour character that comes from quality ingredients.

The Experience

The reviewer shows genuine enthusiasm and excitement throughout the meal, expressing shock and amazement at the quality of familiar dishes elevated to an exceptional level. The atmosphere appears casual and focused on the food itself, with the reviewer eager to speak with the chef about their techniques and approach.

Value & Pricing

The schnitzel is priced at 69 PLN, which the reviewer finds remarkably reasonable given the exceptional quality and portion size. He expresses disbelief that such a high-quality dish is offered at this price point consistently, suggesting exceptional value for money.

Notable Moments

I do not believe they charge 69 PLN for this all the time. I honestly do not know if this is not the best schnitzel I have eaten in Poland.
It is so delicate and mild, and given how thick it is, it makes an enormous impression on me. You order what seems like a schnitzel you have eaten 100 times before, but it tastes completely incomparable to anything I have eaten previously.

The Verdict

Magda Gessler's restaurant delivers exceptional quality on classic Polish dishes. The schnitzel is a revelation, proving that familiar comfort food can be elevated to extraordinary levels through superior technique and quality ingredients. This establishment is a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Polish cuisine executed at the highest level, particularly those who appreciate schnitzel and traditional soups.
