Skylar's Skoops — Review by Randy Santel

Muscle Shoals, United States — Ice Cream

Randy Santel took on the 32-scoop Sink Ice Cream Sundae Challenge at Skylar's Skoops in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, consuming 10 pounds of ice cream with various toppings and sauces in 28 minutes to win his 1,375th food challenge. Despite the ice cream being very high quality with excellent flavor options, the extreme volume and rock-hard texture made the experience physically challenging and uncomfortable.

What was great: High quality ice cream with over 40 flavors to choose from, including unique options like Banana Pudding and Strawberry Cheesecake. Successfully completed the 32-scoop challenge in 28 minutes.

What could improve: Ice cream was very hard and didn't melt easily, making it difficult to consume. Extremely cold experience and physical discomfort from eating 10 pounds of ice cream in a short time period.

The Dishes

The main event was the Sink Ice Cream Sundae Challenge featuring a massive 160-ounce bowl containing 32 baseball-sized scoops of ice cream. Randy selected from over 40 available flavors, choosing a diverse mix that included Banana Pudding, Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookies and Cream, and various vanilla options. The sundae was topped with 10 toppings total, four different sauces (strawberry, chocolate, and white chocolate), and six candies or cookies including Reese's Pieces, M&M Minis, Oreos, sprinkles, peanuts, and whipped cream. Randy noted that the ice cream quality was excellent and creamy, though he acknowledged that by the end, all the toppings blended together in flavor.

The Experience

The challenge took place at Skylar's Skoops with a supportive crowd of spectators cheering Randy on throughout the attempt. The atmosphere was energetic and celebratory, with many children present who Randy didn't want to disappoint. Skylar herself was instrumental in preparing the massive sundae, putting significant effort into maximizing the scoop sizes. The restaurant staff were welcoming, though Randy had to sign a waiver acknowledging the risks of the challenge. The experience was physically intense, with Randy feeling extremely cold throughout due to the high volume of ice cream consumption.

Value & Pricing

The challenge cost $50 if failed, but if completed successfully within 31 minutes, the entire 10-pound sundae was provided free along with a commemorative t-shirt and placement on the Wall of Fame. Given the massive portion size and quality ingredients, the free meal represented excellent value for winners. The restaurant also offers regular menu items like banana splits and smaller sundaes for customers who don't attempt the challenge.

Notable Moments

I've got ten pounds of freaking ice cream to eat in under 31 minutes! I'm going for overall food challenge win number 1,375.
This ice cream like isn't melting! The other issue with this not melting, I think it means it's probably high fat, which is not good. Trying to lose weight.
My time 28 minutes.

Randy completed the challenge with 3 minutes to spare, finishing faster than the time limit but slower than the previous record holder who finished with 7 minutes remaining. He mentioned that the 31-minute time limit was specifically related to the anniversary of Derek and Skyler, the owners.

The Verdict

Randy successfully claimed his 1,375th food challenge win, though he humorously declared he would never eat ice cream again after this experience. Despite the physical toll of consuming such a massive volume of frozen dairy, he genuinely praised Skylar's Skoops for their quality product and recommended the restaurant to viewers. He suggested that even those not interested in attempting the challenge should visit for regular menu items like banana splits and standard sundaes. The restaurant appears to be newly opened (only a couple of months at the time of filming) and is worth visiting for ice cream lovers in the Muscle Shoals area.
