Źródło Kofeiny — Review by KSIĄŻULO
Warsaw, Poland — Breakfast and Cafe
The reviewer tested three Warsaw cafes that approached them for paid promotion. At Źródło Kofeiny on Mokotów, they ordered multiple breakfast dishes to go. While some items like bacon were well-cooked, most dishes disappointed with underseasoning, small portions, and high prices (22-39 PLN per item), making them believe you could get better value at other establishments.
What was great: Eggs Benedict with bacon were well-prepared and crispy, French toast was sweet and pleasant with good fruit, some dishes had nice presentation
What could improve: Eggs were underseasoned and clumpy, too much bread and not enough salmon in Benedict, portions too small for the price, shakshuka was over-spiced with cumin and tasted bitter, eggs in shakshuka were undercooked, bread lacks crispness, overall lack of seasoning and flavor in most dishes, expensive for what you get
The Dishes
The reviewer ordered five breakfast items for takeout. The Eggs Benedict with salmon came on a lightly sweet butter roll with Holland sauce, priced at 41 PLN. The yolk flowed nicely, but the salmon portion was disappointingly small (around 50g), and the bread was too soft and overshadowed the delicate fish. The scrambled eggs at 22 PLN (24 PLN to go) consisted of just two eggs with some tomato dressing, lettuce, and arugula on a plain roll. These eggs were completely underseasoned, clumpy, and lacked any pepper or salt, making them taste bland and uninspiring.
The omelet with mozzarella and spinach at 29 PLN was a bit better seasoned than the scrambled eggs but still felt hollow and underdeveloped. The spinach wasn't properly seasoned, and the flavor profile was monotonously eggy. The shakshuka at 34 PLN was perhaps the biggest disappointment, arriving with heavily over-spiced cumin that made the entire dish taste bitter and unpleasant. The eggs were undercooked and hadn't properly set in the sauce, creating an odd texture. The French toast with various fruits at 34 PLN was sweet and pleasant with kiwi, but felt more like a waffle at the beach than an authentic French toast. The chia pudding appeared properly made but was not extensively discussed.
The Experience
When the reviewer called to order breakfast for takeout, they were informed it would take about 40 minutes. Upon arrival to pick up the food, the cafe was absolutely packed with crowds waiting for seating. The atmosphere was chaotic, with people standing around waiting for tables while ordering simultaneously. The cafe appeared very popular and busy, though the wait time and crowd situation weren't ideal for pickup orders. Service seemed professional enough during the phone ordering process, with staff providing accurate wait time estimates.
Value and Pricing
The prices ranged from 22-41 PLN per item, which the reviewer found expensive for what was delivered. For context, they mentioned that at Galeria Wypieków (a chain bakery cafe), similar breakfast items cost around 25-26 PLN and provided better value with larger portions. The reviewer calculated that to get properly full at Źródło Kofeiny, they would need to spend 50-60 PLN on two breakfast items, which still wouldn't be a substantial meal. They also compared prices to kebabs they could get elsewhere for similar amounts, suggesting the value proposition was weak.
Notable Moments
During the review, a stray dog without a collar appeared and stayed with them for about 10 minutes. The dog was well-behaved, gave paw on command, and appeared well-groomed despite having no collar or leash. Eventually, a man with a cane arrived claiming the dog, and they left together. The reviewer joked that the dog must have been attracted by the smell of the Eggs Benedict. This lighthearted moment broke up what was otherwise a fairly critical review of the food.
The Verdict
The reviewer concluded they would not return to Źródło Kofeiny for breakfast, with one possible exception for the Eggs Benedict if they were ever in the neighborhood without other options. They explicitly stated they would not film a promotional video for this restaurant, as they felt the food quality and value didn't justify the recommendation. The overall assessment was that this is a trendy, fancy Mokotów-area cafe that looks nice on the surface but delivers mediocre, underseasoned food at premium prices that would be better spent elsewhere, particularly at more established breakfast chains that offer superior value and portion sizes.
